Microsystem Research Center Faculty and Post doctoral Positions Opening.
PEN TUNG SAH MEMS Research Center, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China
The SAH, PEN-TUNG MEMS Research Center in Xiamen University, Xiamen, Fujian, China
is seeking several qualified individuals for tenure-track faculty positions and post doctoral fellows in the fields of micro-electro-mechanical-systems and nano technology and materials, starting from spring 2005. The candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related discipline with research expertise in one of the following areas: integrated circuit and micro-fabrication technologies, micro sensors and actuators, and micro systems, nano technologies and materials. Successful candidates will focus on scientific and engineering research in micro-electro-mechanical systems, and development of micro/nano devices and systems into products for industrial applications. The work can be carried out with technical staffs in the Center and/or with graduate students from Center and other departments. Undergraduate and graduate teaching may be offered in the Center or in Departments. Post
doctoral fellows are also available in microfabrication technologies and microsystem design.
The PEN-TUNG SAH MEMS Research Center, Xiamen University, is established in 2001 devoted to research and education in micro and nano scale devices and systems and may broaden into other leading edges of high technology fields. The Center headquarter is housed in a 2003 building with 3,800 square meters of floor space, including class 100 and 1000 clean rooms and a set of micro-fabrication facilities. Operation funding for the Center for the next 3 years has been secured, expanded Center operation is also planned. The Center receives strong support from Xiamen University alumni, Xiamen City Government and regional industries and is aimed to become a world class research laboratory, a shared fabrication facility of research institutions and a hatchery of new products that brings research and technology for the benefit of society.
The Center is in its early stage of development; there is a high degree of freedom in research direction and operation mode. It is an independent unit within the University operated under a Board of Trustees. It will enjoy high flexibility, fast reaction and low restriction operation as well as a compensation scale commensurate with the talent and achievement. Presently, there are three faculty members, five full time technical staffs and several engineers based in the Center. Collaborative research is being developed with colleges of sciences, engineering, medicine, oceanography and environments, etc. as well as with local/national industries. A technology transfer mechanism is in place to carry the research results into commercial products in the industrial park of Xiamen Special Economic District, which welcomes and assists ambitious entrepreneurs to establish new enterprises in this district.
